Main Research

The professorship's research focuses on the areas of International Relations and Security Studies. Currently, three main projects are being pursued: the first deals with the acceptance respectively the rejection of public security measures, particularly in the fields of aviation and data security. The second one concentrates on the impact and the sources of legitimacy in United States' foreign policy; the third centers around the question of why there was no use of nuclear weapons after 1945. Further research work covers the topics of German foreign policy, non-proliferation - also in conjunction with international terrorism -, strategic studies, Classics and Theories of International Relations as well as scientific policy advice.

Research Cooperation

Currently there exists a research cooperation with the Future anylysis Department of the Bundeswehr Transformation Center in the context of the MidTermStudy 2025 about future war scenarios. Furthermore, regarding a conjointly authored application for a research project, there is close exchange with Darmstadt University of Technology, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, Fraunhofer Institute for Information and Data Processing as well as the European Center for Aviation Development.
