Thesis title:

Why do some wars not break out?

My field of scientific interest deals with the transition from conflict to war. Wars do not break out at once, in most cases a smouldering conflict precedes.
Nevertheless there are conflicts, that do not end up in militarised disputes. My thesis concentrates on wars, which do not erupt and tries to find factores avoiding the changeover from conflict to war.
First of all indicators referring to the outbreak of war will be deduced from the existing theories of war causation. With those it will be possible to single empirical cases out, that have the indication for war, but contrary to expectations it does not commence.
In a second step indicators, which could be responsible for the prevention of war, will be derived from the case studies by deduction. For conclusion there will be a generalisation and a test of validity.
The work is a contribution to the reserach of war causation and is supposed to be a  benefit for the knowledge of war prevention.
