Workshop 1
We would like to invite you to our first workshop in the context of newly established SACS junior research group.
The project ‘Support for Arms Control in Space’ (SACS) is a Junior Research Group aiming to support the development of a possible future arms control treaty for space armaments. It aims to do so by identifying strategically stable states in space that reduce the likelihood of (unintentional) war, the consequences of war if it occurs, and the costs associated with maintaining the security of the treaty participants. Based on this work, the project will aim to support the definition of treaty terms as well as design a system for its verification. It finally aims to transfer its results so that they are relevant to policy makers and stakeholders on the topic. The group is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) up to 30.09.2028.
With this first workshop we aim to:
- Collect input from and discuss with participants on what an arms control treaty for space should consider and look like, as well as the challenges, obstacles, and opportunities for arms control in space.
- Establish a network of experts and stakeholders to facilitate further exchange in the future.
