Visit at MIT, Cambridge and APS Global Physics Summit 2026, Denver
30 März 2026
Our PhD Student Martin Gerlei had the opportunity to visit the United States for an exciting period of research, collaboration, and scientific exchange.
During the first week, he was at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, where he delivered a seminar to Nanomaterials and Electronics group (https://nmeg.mit.edu/). Alongside the presentation, he actively collaborated in the lab, focusing on the synthesis of Janus structures and their characterization using Raman spectroscopy.
In addition, Martin worked closely with colleagues from the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) at the Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies, MIT on the design of a multi-project device aimed at advancing optoelectronic experiments based on PtSe₂.
In the second week, he participated in the APS Global Physics Summit 2026, where he presented his work titled “Tuneable Optoelectronic Response In Flexible PtSe2 Films - Towards Reconfigurable IR Polarisation Detection” in the “2D Materials: Optoelectronics” session.

The conference was an inspiring experience, filled with many outstanding talks. He had the chance to meet excellent researchers and gained valuable insights through engaging discussions with experts in the field.
A highly productive and inspiring trip, strengthening international collaborations and pushing forward cutting-edge research in nanoscience and optoelectronics.
