Luigi Greco, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pavia, has won the prestigious GIMC (Italian Group for Computational Mechanics) prize for the best doctoral thesis in the field of Solid Computational Mechanics defended at an Italian university in 2025.
The title of the award-winning dissertation is:
"Isogeometric Methods for the Study of Fracture Mechanics via Phase-Field Modeling“.
Luigi Greco created it as part of the PhD program “Design, Modeling, and Simulation in Engineering” under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Reali, Matteo Negri (University of Pavia) and Dr. Alessia Patton (University of the Federal Armed Forces).
Luigi Greco was a visiting doctoral student at our institute, where he conducted research on dynamic phase-field fracture mechanics. Some of the results obtained during his stay are included in the publication “Fourth-order isogeometric phase-field modeling of dynamic brittle fracture: Numerical study and comparison with second-order models” (CMAME 2026, DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cma.2025.118513).
