29 April 2026

During an academic ceremony on April 29, 2026, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences awarded the title of Honorary Professor to Dr.-Ing. Martin Sauer from the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, Freiburg.

Dr. Sauer receives this award due to his many years of highly successful research-oriented work and his outstanding expertise in the field of high dynamics.

High dynamics plays a particularly important role for the Bundeswehr University Munich, with its focus on the topic of "Security in Technology and Society." For many years, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences has conducted diverse research projects on highly dynamic problems, including within the framework of the RISK Research Center, often in cooperation with defense technology agencies of the Bundeswehr or the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics (Ernst Mach Institute, EMI). These projects are documented in numerous publications, conference papers, and dissertations.

Dr. Sauer already focused on high dynamics and suitable simulation methods in his doctoral dissertation, which he completed in 2000 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Surveying at UniBw M. Through his many years of work at the Ernst Mach Institute, most recently as head of the "High Dynamics" group and deputy head of the "Materials and Simulation Methods" department, he is a proven and internationally recognized expert in this field. He fulfills his teaching position, which he has held for ten years, in an outstanding manner and with a very high level of personal commitment.
