German-Italian Workshop on Computational Mechanics

18 March 2026

Prof. Josef Kiendl participated as an invited guest in the third German-Italian Workshop on Computational Mechanics at the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM) in Udine on February 19 and 20, 2026, with a lecture on “A variationally consistent model for wrinkling in hyperelastic membranes”.

The event followed up on the meetings in Udine (2018) and Aachen (2023) and continued the collaboration between the German Association of Computational Mechanics (GACM) and the Italian Group of Computational Mechanics (GIMC). It provided a platform for professional exchange and new collaborations between the German and Italian communities.

The workshop was organized by Giovanni Garcea (Università della Calabria), Norbert Hosters (RWTH Aachen), Michele Marino (Università di Roma Tor Vergata), Francesco Marmo (Università di Napoli Federico II) and Alexander Popp (UniBw). The presentations addressed current results, challenges and future developments and underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation.

The special ambience of the CISM in the Palazzo Mangilli del Torso, built in 1577, combined with a well-organized supporting program, created ideal conditions for a constructive professional exchange as well as for making new contacts and deepening existing ones.
