Research exchange with UTokyo

21 November 2024

Prof. Michael Schultz was invited to The University of Tokyo and hosted by Prof. Eri Itoh, head of the Aerospace Mobility Lab. He participated in the 4th International Workshop on Scientific Logistics, which provided a platform for research exchange and collaboration on key challenges in aviation and mobility.

The workshop discussions covered topics such as efficient airspace management, flow-based air traffic control, contrail prevention strategies, and the optimization of ground operations. The importance of international cooperation in addressing these challenges was a central theme of the event.

During the visit, Prof. Schultz joined Prof. Eri Itoh’s research lab to present the latest progress in aviation research. Discussions centered on the efficient management of limited airspace, addressing the demands of current and future users, including electric aircraft and space operations. A key focus was on sustainable operations across all flight phases within a complex, interconnected network of airports.

Within the context of the Tokyo Forum 2024, Prof. Schultz also engaged with the President of The University of Tokyo, Prof. Teruo Fujii. Their discussions highlighted the pressing sustainability challenges facing aviation and the necessity of well-connected international research groups to address these global issues effectively.
