GOOSE - GNSS Empfänger mit offener Software-Schnittstelle

 

The GOOSE (GNSS Empfänger Mit Offener SOftwareSchnittstellE) project is a joint venture of FhG (Fraunhofer Institute), NavX (Navxperience GmbH) and UniBwM (the Universität der Bundeswehr München) and is funded by German Aerospace Centre (DLR). The goal of the project is to establish an entire development platform consisting of a smart antenna and a HW/SW GNSS receiver including the RTK unit. Due to the open software architecture concept, the GNSS receiver provides means to add SW units for different applications. The user portfolio is professional researchers, developers to implement their own algorithms in the GOOSE platform.

The UniBwM is responsible for implementing the RTK unit on linux environment and the multi-constellation reference station; thus providing real-time GNSS carrier phase ambiguity based positioning. The reference station supports real-time transmission standard of RTCM 3.1 using UMTS network in conjunction with UDP connection. In addition, the UniBwM is in charge of testing and demonstrating the entire GOOSE development platform.

RTK is one of the most precise positioning techniques used in GNSS. RTK positioning system is based on a rover and a reference station that is supplying real time correction data at a fixed location to the rover. By using correction data at the receiver, RTK provides cm-level accuracy of user positions. The performance of RTK depends strictly on data link latency in synchronized RTK demonstration software, baseline length, ambiguity fixing precision, multipath, ionospheric and tropospheric errors.
