Teaching Concept Comparison of Actual and Required Profiles: Academic teaching is facing the great challenge of finding a sensible way between the principles of an academic course of studies with a sound theoretical foundation and the requirements the economy makes on university graduates. We have developed a 3-pillar concept to achieve this aim. Our 3-Pillar Concept: Technical competence: is the ability to solve technical problems on the basis of profession-related capabilities and skills. Methodical competence: is the knowledge of and ability to apply techniques, tools and methods for structuring and finding adequate solutions to complex problems. Social competence: is the sum of all behavior-relevant personality traits and behavior dispositions allowing to exhibit group-oriented, supportive behavior in lateral interactive relationships (situations involving two people or group situations).
