On February 27, 2026, our former IMCS colleague Tarik Sahin celebrated an important milestone in his academic career: by successfully defending his dissertation, he completed his doctoral studies. His thesis, entitled “From Data-Driven Surrogate Models to PINNs: Machine Learning Techniques for Computational Engineering”, focuses on modern machine learning methods for applications in computational mechanics.

As part of the doctoral examination, Tarik presented his research in a 30-minute talk, followed by a one-hour questioning session by the examination committee, which he successfully mastered. The committee members were Prof. Alexander Popp, Prof. Fadi Aldakheel, and Prof. Merten Stender, with Prof. Josef Kiendl serving as chair of the examination committee.

Following the official announcement of the successful defense, the newly awarded doctor was warmly celebrated by the entire institute as well as by family, friends, and colleagues. In a joyful atmosphere, this special milestone was honored together and the successful completion of his doctorate was celebrated extensively.

We warmly congratulate Tarik on this important academic achievement and wish him continued success in his future scientific and professional endeavors.
