Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Erik Ode

has held the professorship in General Educational Science at the Department of Human Sciences since September 2019.

His main focus in research and teaching is on the theory of education as well as on philosophical, historical-systematic and ethical foundations of pedagogics. His spectrum ranges from “classical” fields of general education science such as concept and theory formation to more special investigations into education obstacles, social change and covert exclusion mechanisms revealed by ideology-critical, poststructuralist or phenomenological approaches. At present, he is involved, among other things, in exploring ideal-type “educational characters” (Bildungsfiguren) and analyzing enemy concepts in popular advice literature.

After his studies to become a high school teacher, Erik Ode obtained his doctorate at the Cologne University. Here, he also qualified as a university lecturer. Before his appointment to the Universität der Bundeswehr München, he already worked as a deputy professor in Munich as well as at the Freiburg i. Br. College of Education training teachers. Mr. Ode is an active member of numerous scientific associations such as the German Educational Research Association (GERA), the Society for Education and Knowledge (GBW, Gesellschaft für Bildung und Wissen) and the Working Group Humanities for Education Cologne (HEC). He is a section head in the interdisciplinary Görres Society and for many years, has been a co-editor of a renowned professional journal. Prof. Ode is a founding member of the Pedagogical Discourses and an external lecturer at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg.
