Prof. Dr.-Ing. Silja Hoffmann

has been Professor of Intelligent Multimodal Transport Systems at the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences since February 2019, thus strengthening the Institute of Transportation.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Silja Hoffmann

She is engaged in research and teaching with topics related to our mobility. The impact of automation, digitization and networking on the transport system will be extensive and both a challenge and an opportunity. An important basis for the planning and design of future transport systems is therefore an in-depth understanding of the mobility behavior of people in the transport system as well as technological developments and their feedback with the infrastructure. A central task of transport research is to use the most appropriate solution out of a variety of new technologies. The infrastructure has to be adapted to the opportunities. Equally, solutions and models for a user-friendly transport system need to be developed.

After studying civil engineering, Ms. Hoffmann began her professional career in traffic research at BMW AG. Additionally, she studied industrial engineering. Until 2018, Ms. Hoffmann was working as a research group leader for modeling and simulation at the Chair of Traffic Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, where in 2013 she also did her PHD on the simulation and impact assessment of vehicle and traffic safety-related Transport Systems. Since the beginning of 2015 she works as a freelance engineer. She is a founding partner of the Munich-based consultancy MobilityPartners.
