Prof. Dr. Florian Alt

has been Professor of Usable Security and Privacy at the Research Institute of Cyber Defense and Smart Data (CODE) in the Department of Computer Science since May 1, 2018.

Prof. Dr. Florian Alt

Florian Alt investigates human factors in security-critical environments. His focus is on behavioral biometrics, new authentication mechanisms and empirical research methods in IT security.

Before his appointment to the Bundeswehr University Munich, Florian Alt was a professor of human-computer interaction at the LMU Munich and addressed the interface between interactive systems and the real world. Research priorities included interactive surfaces, new physiological interaction techniques (eyetracking, brain-computer interfaces), virtual reality and user interfaces in the vehicle. Since 2017, Prof. Alt headed the ZD.B research group Biometrics++ at the University of Applied Sciences Munich.

Florian Alt obtained his PhD from the University of Stuttgart and worked as a researchResearch  associate at the University of Duisburg-Essen and as a visiting researcher at Deutsche Telekom Labs in Berlin.

Professor Alt is the editor and co-author of textbooks on Pervasive Advertising (Springer HCI Series) and Pervasive Displays (Synthesis Lectures). He is on the editorial board of IEEE Pervasive Computing, Associate Editor of ACM IMWUT and Associate Chair of the ACM SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI).
