Prof. Dr.-Ing. Norbert Gebbeken

From 1983 to 1988, Prof. Norbert Gebbeken was a research assistant at the University of Hanover, where he received his doctorate in engineering with summa cum laude. He then remained at the University of Hanover until his habilitation and was appointment to the Universität der Bundeswehr München in 1995. In Neubiberg, he took over the professorship for Structural Analysis at the Institute for Mechanics and Structural Analysis, but also remained a lecturer at his former university. Since 1998, he has also been a "Consulting Engineer" of the Bavarian Chamber of Engineers Construction, of which he has been President since 2016, and is consulted as an expert. From 2001 to 2002, Prof. Gebbeken was a member of the Extended University Council at the Universität der Bundeswehr München as Dean of the Departmentof Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, and from 2003 to 2004 he was Vice President.

Prof. Gebbeken is particularly concerned with the security of structural infrastructure against extraordinary influences such as natural hazards, technical and terrorist attacks. His research ranges from the development and investigation of new materials, explosion-proof panes and facades to safe buildings and structural infrastructure. Since 2011, his research group "BauProtect" has been increasingly working on holistic concepts for safe urban spaces. This includes the investigation and implementation of intelligent street furniture and intelligent landscaping, e.g. with the help of explosion-proof plants. Risk research and risk management are further research areas of his.
