About the webinar
Accelerators support the fast-track development of start-ups. Although their emergence and popularity has increased during the last years, limited research exists on accelerator types and whether the organizational context influences their design (e.g., nature of business, industry). This webinar presents a research study, which found three different accelerator types with distinct design elements, success factors, key challenges, and success measurements in the context of the process industries: 1) Corporate accelerator, 2) Public accelerator, and 3) Hybrid accelerator. For the identification of different accelerator types, this webinar provides an overview about the research approach, while also discussing the results and giving practical examples.
About the speaker
Thorsten Bergmann holds a Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) in business chemistry from the University of Münster. In his dissertation, he investigated the opportunities and limitations of start-up accelerator programs for new venture creation and development in the process industries.
At the same time, he worked as a research assistant at the Center for Industry and Sustainability (ZIN) at Provadis School of International Management and Technology, which is located at the industrial park Höchst/Frankfurt in Germany.
The ZIN co-created the concept for the EIT Climate-KIC RIS Accelerator in 2016. In total, around 300 start-ups from up to 12 different European countries were supported by the program from 2016-2020. The program was run together with our local partners in each country.
