YRCS 2026

From the 18th until the 20th of March, the Young Researcher Crypto Seminar (YRCS) was held at the Hasso-Plattner-Institut in Potsdam. Researchers from the QuSAC group attended to present and discuss ongoing research. Thomas den Hollander presented the QuSAC group's recent work on proving knowledge of isogenies.

Swissogeny Day 2026

On 20 March 2026, QuSAC researcher Marzio Mula gave a talk at the Swissogeny Day 2026, hosted at IBM Research Zurich. In his talk, “SNARK Magic and Other Tricks for Proving Isogeny Knowledge”, Marzio presented recent work on non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs of knowledge of isogenies. Such proofs are useful to demonstrate the possession or well-formedness of cryptographic public keys, to support multiparty generation of supersingular elliptic curves with unknown endomorphism ring, and as building blocks digital signatures.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship Awarded to Dr. Marzio Mula

We are delighted to announce that QuSAC researcher Dr. Marzio Mula has been awarded a Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Action (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship. Marzio will join the CANARI team at Inria Bordeaux and the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux for a two‑year fellowship with his project IsoPODS (Isogeny‑Based Primitives, Optimisations, and Dynamical Systems).

OIST Visiting Program

From January 13th to January 26th Sebastian Spindler participated in the first two weeks of the OIST Thematic Program “Isogeny-based Cryptography” in Onna (Okinawa, Japan). The mornings started off with many interesting research talks, and afterwards the participants formed smaller groups to brainstorm on various topics in the current landscape of isogeny-based cryptography.

Asiacrypt 2025

From the 8th until the 12th of December, members of the QuSAC group visited Asiacrypt, the largest cryptography conference of Asia. The 2025 edition took place in Melbourne, Australia. It was a valuable opportunity to speak with other researches and learn about recent research. In total, 3 papers accepted at the conference were (co-)authored by members of the QuSAC group.

Swissogeny Day Lausanne

On November 26th Shernyce Duncombe, Marzio Mula and Sebastian Spindler participated in the fourth edition of the Swissogeny Day, which was hosted at the EPFL in Lausanne. The one-day workshop kicked off with research talks on generalized lollipop attacks, an alternative approach to SQIsign incorporating level structures, and an attack on the active security of PEARL-SCALLOP.

Research Visit and Seminar Talks @ INRIA Bordeaux

In November 2025, two researchers from the QuSAC lab, Marzio Mula and Sebastian Spindler, visited the CANARI project-team at Inria Bordeaux and the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux. During their stay, they gave two seminar talks at the Algorithmic Number Theory Seminar (Séminaire de Théorie Algorithmique des Nombres).

Invited Speaker at the Australian Summer School on Privacy 2025

Prof. Daniel Slamanig was an invited speaker at the Australian Summer School on Privacy 2025, held at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney. The summer school brought together students, researchers, and practitioners from academia and industry to explore current developments in privacy-enhancing technologies, including topics such as cryptography for privacy, differential privacy, usable privacy, and AI privacy.

Talk @ Crypto 2025

On August 18th, Sebastian Spindler presented the paper “More Efficient Isogeny Proofs of Knowledge via Canonical Modular Polynomials”, which arose from a collaboration between the QuSAC group and CODE colleague Sören Kleine, remotely during the 45th edition of the CRYPTO conference.

Isogeny Club

On October 7th, Sebastian Spindler gave the online talk “Counting ℓ-isogenies with different modular polynomials” as part of the seventh season of the Isogeny Club. The talk covered both the CRYPTO paper “More Efficient Isogeny Proofs of Knowledge via Canonical Modular Polynomials”, which is a joint work of the QuSAC group and CODE colleague Sören Kleine, as well as subsequent, not yet published follow-up work that investigates other modular polynomials.

Crypto Day

On September 25th and 26th, Sebastian Spindler participated in the 39th Crypto Day, which was hosted by the genua GmbH in Kirchheim near Munich. At the event, Sebastian had the opportunity to converse with researchers from other universities and from the industry mainly about practical aspects of cryptography. Additionally, in his talk “Isogeny Proofs of Knowledge – A Survey” Sebastian gave an overview over the evolution of proofs of knowledge for isogeny paths over the last two years.

Isogeny Days 6

From September 10th to 12th, Marzio Mula, Shernyce Duncombe and Sebastian Spindler attended the sixth edition of the isogeny days in Leuven. Each day of the workshop was separated into two parts: In the morning current research results and ongoing projects in isogeny-based cryptography were presented by various researchers, whereas in the afternoon new research ideas were explored in smaller brainstorming groups.

Young Researcher Crypto Seminar

From September 1st to 3rd, Sebastian Spindler attended the Young Researcher Crypto Seminar in Karlsruhe, where he met with fellow early career researchers to discuss current developments in cryptology. In his talk “The supersingular (ℓ-)isogeny graph”, Sebastian furthermore presented his preprint “Exploring Kaneko’s bound: On multi-edges, loops and the diameter of the supersingular ℓ-isogeny graph”, which he published in the IACR Cryptology ePrint Archive together with Sebastiano Boscardin from the Eindhoven University of Technology.

3 Papers accepted at ASIACRYPT 2025

This year, three papers by the QUSAC group were accepted at the renowned ASIACRYPT conference. The 31st edition of the International Conference on the Theory and Application of Cryptology and Information Security – ASIACRYPT 2025 – will take place this year from December 8-12 in Melbourne, Australia. Below are brief summaries of the three accepted papers:

BIRS workshop “Isogeny Graphs in Cryptography”

From August 3rd to 8th, Sebastian Spindler attended the workshop “Isogeny Graphs in Cryptography” in Canada. In his lightning talk “On the diameter of the supersingular ℓ-isogeny graph” Sebastian presented part of his new preprint “Exploring Kaneko’s bound: On multi-edges, loops and the diameter of the supersingular ℓ-isogeny graph” that he recently published together with Sebastiano Boscardin from the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Attending ArcticCrypt 2025

From July 6th to 11th, the QuSAC group attended the 2025 edition of ArcticCrypt – the world’s northernmost cryptography conference – in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Prof. Slamanig was invited to chair the conference's session on "Mathematical Aspects of Cryptography", and Sebastian Spindler presented the paper “More Efficient Isogeny Proofs of Knowledge via Canonical Modular Polynomials”.

ACNS 2025 & PrivCrypt 2025

The 23rd International Conference on Applied Cryptography and Network Security (ACNS 2025) was held in Munich, Germany, at the Munich Urban Co-Lab on 23–26 June 2025. In this year’s edition, Prof. Slamanig served as the Poster Chair of the conference.

CrypTO Conference

A researcher from the QuSAC lab (Marzio Mula) attended the CrypTO Conference in Turin, held on May 22–23, 2025. He presented the talk “Representing isogenies via (classical, canonical, Atkin...) modular polynomials”, based on joint work with the QuSAC group, Marc Houben, and Sören Kleine.

EUROCRYPT 2025 and Inivted Talk at CTB'25

From May 4th to 8th, the 44th edition of Eurocrypt — one of the world’s leading scientific conferences in the field of cryptography took plase at the RIU Hotel in Madrid, Spain. Each year, the event showcases the most significant advances in cryptographic research.

Paper accepted at CRYPTO 2025

The paper "More Efficient Isogeny Proofs of Knowledge via Canonical Modular Polynomials" by the QuSAC group and CODE colleague Sören Kleine has been accepted for publication at the CRYPTO 2025 conference, which will take place in Santa Barbara, USA on August 17-21, 2025.

SQIparty2025 in Lleida

Last week Sebastian Spindler attended the SQIparty2025, a workshop on isogeny-based cryptography that was held in Lleida, Spain on April 28-30, 2025. Between many interesting talks on SQIsign, higher-dimensional techniques as well as related topics and the more interactive skillshare sessions, the workshop provided the perfect opportunity to learn about and discuss current developments in isogeny-based cryptography, even in the face of the countrywide power outage in Spain.

ZKProof 7 and RWC in Sofia

A researcher from QuSAC (Thomas den Hollander) recently travelled to Sofia to attend ZKProof 7, the leading initiative focusing on the development and standardization of zero-knowledge proofs. There he presented research by the QuSAC group and met other researchers in the area of proof systems and zero-knowledge.

Young Researcher Crypto Seminar

From the 3rd to the 5th of March, Sebastian Spindler and Thomas den Hollander visited the Young Researcher Crypto Seminar (YRCS) in Konstanz. There they both presented recent QuSAC research on proving knowledge of isogenies. They also used the opportunity to meet fellow early career researchers and discuss new developments in cryptology.

ArcticCrypt 2025

The paper "More Efficient Isogeny Proofs of Knowledge via Canonical Modular Polynomials" by the QuSAC group and CODE colleague Sören Kleine was recently accepted for the ArcticCrypt 2025 conference which will take place in Longyearbyen, Svalbard on July 6th-11th 2025.

The Isogeny Club

On 19 November 2024, a researcher from QuSAC, Marzio Mula, delivered an online talk for the Isogeny Club. His presentation focused on recent developments in his article The Hessian of Elliptic Curves, co-authored with F. Pintore and D. Taufer. Slides and recording of the seminar are available online.

Cifris24

A QuSAC researcher, Marzio Mula, attended the conference Cifris24 held in Rome on September 25-27, 2024. He also presented a recent work by the QuSAC group, together with CODE colleague Sören Kleine, on proving knowledge of isogenies.

Workshop in Edinburgh

A researcher from QuSaC, Thomas den Hollander, participated in the 5-day workshop Foundations and Applications of Zero-Knowledge Proofs in Edinburgh. It was an opportunity to broaden his knowledge of modern zero-knowledge proof systems as well as meet and discuss with other researchers in the area. He also presented the recent QuSaC-paper "A Crack in the Firmament: Restoring Soundness of the Orion Proof System and More".

Leuven Isogeny Days 5

Two researchers from the QuSAC lab (Marzio Mula and Sebastian Spindler) attended the 5th installment of the Isogeny Days in Leuven (Belgium) from 11 to 13 September 2024. The main themes discussed in the talks and in the brainstorming sessions revolve around the use of higher-dimensional abelian varieties, generalized pairings, and quaternion algebras for both constructive and destructive purposes in isogeny-based protocols.
