Game theory is a mathematical method used to model behaviour and decision-making patterns in social conflict situations. The game-theoretical approach to security policy has a long tradition, especially since the Cold War. The underlying analytical and strategic thinking helps to improve the understanding as well as the assessment of complex problems.
In its research, CISS sets a regional focus on Southeast Asia and the MENA region. The game theory analyses of conflict situations conducted at the CISS have a particular interest in armed conflicts and their actors.
