AI in Political Science Education: A Radical Rethink Is Needed!
30 January 2026
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become ubiquitous in political science degree programmes as well. The way it has been handled so far—by both students and lecturers—has been unsatisfactory and poses problems for achieving the main learning objectives of a political science degree.
Together with Elvira Rosert (University of Hamburg) and Frank Sauer (Metis Institute on Strategy and Foresight at University of the Bundeswehr Munich) Eva Herschinger from CISS has published a guest article in the German newspaper taz discussing how the discipline of political science should respond to the challenges posed by AI in higher education. They call for a radical rethink, particularly when it comes to assessment formats, and put forward five proposals for reform.
