New working paper published in the CISS Munich series

In the latest article from the CISS Munich Working Paper Series, 'Wargaming: "It's Not a Game!"', Christian Nitzl critically examines the use of wargaming. The representation of military scenarios in wargames is widely regarded as being of considerable complexity. A critical look is taken at the mixing of wargames for professional use and games for leisure, the use and misuse of wargames, and the limited possibility of drawing conclusions about reality from wargames. Some of the problems described could be solved by professionalizing wargaming.
