Dr. Joel Winckler

Dr. Joel Winckler holds a doctorate degree in Political Science and graduated at Freie Universität Berlin specialising in international relations, peace and conflict studies and organisational research. Among other engagements during his career, he served as Protection of Civilians Adviser at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). He also worked as team lead and desk officer at the German Federal Foreign Office, responsible for early warning, conflict analysis and scenario planning as well as the inter-ministerial Working Group on Crisis Early Warning.

Since September 2022, he is a researcher at the Center for Crisis Early Warning.
