Abstract

Transit Doppler measurements have been developed to be a reliable and powerful means for precise coordinate determinations in geodetic networks. This is especially true for areas with insufficient geodetic control or regions of difficult access. As such, Doppler techniques are widely used for control surveys in developing countries. The Institut für Erdmessung (IFE) has performed several joint Dopplerprojects in Latin America. Two examples are given and discussed: a network of 8 stations in Venezuela (cooperation with the University of Maracaibo) and a network of 15 stations in Brazil (cooperation with the University of Curitiba). The main objectives of these projects were twofold. They should form pilote projects for control and improvement of existing networks und they should be a basis for transfer of technology to as well as scientific cooperation with geodetic departments of South American Universities.
