Abstract

The adjustment of GPS baseline vectors in geodetic networks yields (among other quantities) very precise ellipsoidal height differences. Due to the fast that the (orthometric) heights in classical geodetic networks are defined physically refering to the geoid as vertical reference surface, heights above the ellipsoid are in principle of no use for geodetic and surveying applications.

The topic of this paper is to discuss a solution strategy for the separation of orthometric heights and relative geoidla heights which can be done only by taking into account additional gravity field data in such an approach.

Starting with the basic observations equation of cartesian baseline vectors, a least-squares collocation solution strategy is presented. Minimizing the hybrid quadratic norm of observational noise and the functionals of the gravity disturbing potential (signals) ellipsoidal coordinates B, L, orhtometric heights H, and geoidal undulations N can be estimated in a unified model approach.
