Short Profile

I am a Professor of Open Source Intelligence at Universität der Bundeswehr München, where I lead the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) Group. Previously, I was Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Freie Universität Berlin and Professor of Intelligent Systems at Leibniz Universität Hannover, where I remain affiliated with the L3S Research Center.

I joined Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in 2010. I received my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Piraeus, Greece and myDiploma and MSc in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, Greece.

Research

My research focuses on robust, responsible, and adaptive AI under real-world conditions. I develop methods for addressing data imbalance, distribution shifts, bias, and adversarial attacks while promoting fairness, explainability, and accountability. A central goal is to understand the capabilities and limitations of AI systems and develop systems that augment human intelligence and benefit society.
