History of the Chair
The chair was initially named „General Management and Information Management“ and was established in 1993 as a reaction to the growing importance of information as a production factor.
Prof. Dr. Jürgen Janas, a researcher with a strong background in relational databases and their application in business environments, was appointed professor and chair as of October 1, 1993 and held this position until his sudden death on February 6, 2006. During that time, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Janas worked hard on building close ties between business management and information technology at our University. A prominent and lasting result of his many important contributions is the degree program in Information Systems at our institution, which he initiated.
In 2006, the chair was renamed to „General Management and E-Business“, reflecting a stronger focus on supporting automated business transactions for business management in research and education. From April 2006 to September 2007, Prof. Dr. Michael Koch acted as the interim chair.
On April 1, 2008, Martin Hepp was appointed Professor of General Management and E-Business and head of this group.
