University Council
The University Council
The existence of the University Council reflects the fact that the Universität der Bundeswehr München is in an ongoing process of modernization and is constantly increasing contact to the outside world, for it also relies on the knowledge and experience of external experts. Members of the University Council include two representatives from the private sector; two scientists, researchers or artists; and one graduate of the Universität der Bundeswehr München. The President is at liberty to recommend one or two additional members. The members of the University Council are selected by the Extended University Management and are appointed by the Federal Ministry of Defense. The University Council elects one of its own members to serve as chairman. Work as a member of the University Council is carried out on a voluntary basis.
The University Council has a say in all strategic matters affecting the University’s image and thus its competitiveness with other universities. It introduces initiatives and makes suggestions regarding possible areas of focus in research and teaching as well as the future development of the programs of study offered at the University. It supports the University Management in setting goals together with the Federal Ministry of Defense, and it helps manage the budget. Together with the members of the Senate, the University Council forms the Administrative Council.
