The progress in the experimental analysis of fluid mechanical processes bases significantly on the enormous developments in the field of lasers, CCD, and CMOS cameras as well as in the field of computation power. With the help of these components it is possible to measure simultaneously and in a contact-free manner the desired information in several thousand positions without influencing the flow conditions. At the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics the following illumination sources, acquisition systems, object lenses, and microscopes are available for imaging techniques regarding velocity, pressure, temperature, deformation, etc.:
